Growing up in rural North Florida, I developed a passion for hunting at a young age. Though I wouldn’t recommend it, I was actually given a .410 shotgun by a family friend for my 6th birthday. Ironically, it would be seveal years before I would own my first bb/pellet rifle.
From squirrels to raccoons, I hunted everything I could. In later years my father would obtain a bird dog and a bond was developed as we hunted pine rows for the elusive bobwhite quail.
Now 20+ years later I find myself in the lovely state of Hawaii. Unknown to many, Hawaii is a game bird paradise. A plethora of game birds are found and hunted here, such as Quail (California, Japanese), Francolin (Erckel, Grey, Black), Pheasant (Ring-necked, Kalij, Blue), Chukar, and Turkey. Whether you are high upon the slopes of Mauna Kea or in the pasture lands of a private ranch, there’s no greater place to spend your time than with your favorite hunting partner (dog), shotgun, and friends on the open ranges.
My faithful partner is Duke of Chong. He’s a Brittany Spaniel that I got for my birthday in 2006. Though I had no training experience, through the help of a neighbor and The Perfect Start dvd series I managed to mold a decent hunting partner. We have much more to learn, but have enjoyed ourselves tremendously.
Here are a few pictures of our hunting adventures…

2 Birds with 1 shot

I didn’t realize there was such good bird hunting there. I knew there were gamebirds, but not so many.
Yes, there’s so many gamebirds here. You should really get hooked up with Parker Ranch. They have 1 or 2 guides that run bird hunts. They release ringnecks and have blue’s, erckels, chukars, and tons of turkeys as well. There’s plenty of private land turkey hunts, too. I picked up my last 2 from a private ranch. The previous week they had a film crew in from the mainland. I am sure I could set that one up for you. My neighbor down the street could get you on some sheep and goats.
As you can tell, I can go on and on about it. I love it and there’s so much of it.
